Both Men and Women Refrain from Shaving, with the Exception of Men’s Mustaches

Amish women keep their hair untouched, never shaving or trimming it. Men let their beards flourish but steer clear of sporting mustaches. In the 1800s, mustaches were predominantly associated with the affluent and the military.

Neither of these affiliations aligns with Amish values.
