Born and raised in Manhattan, Johansson aspired to become a Hollywood star at a young age. She appeared on stage as a child actress as well. In 1994, she landed an acting credit in the fantasy comedy North and gained early recognition for starring in Manny & Lo. The actress shifted to adult roles in the early 2000s when she appeared in Lost in Translation, winning a BAFTA Award for Best Actress.
